Teacher Certification Deadlines: This program has a firm deadline. If the program is not listed as an option on ApplyTexas for a given semester, applicants may no longer apply for the program for that term. Applicants with incomplete files after the deadline will be denied admission. In order to apply for admission consideration for future terms, applicants must submit a new application, fee, and updated support documents.

Application Decisions for Elementary & Secondary Education - TRP
Applications for Spring admittance will be reviewed after Sept. 1. Decisions will be made no later than October 15. Applications for Fall admittance will be reviewed after March 1. Decisions will be made no later than April 15.

Application and Application Fee

Please apply online through the ApplyTexas Application and allow 2 working days for the application to be received by Texas State.

The required non-refundable $10.00 application fee can be submitted with credit/debit card information during the application process. If you prefer, you may submit a non-refundable $10.00 application fee (check or money order in U.S. currency) made payable to Texas State. Mailing address:

Please Note: Students who wish to change their program or apply to an additional program must pay the fee associated with the new application. Should you decide to apply to a graduate degree program, up to six hours of graduate-level courses, with a grade of 'B' or better, may be petitioned for degree credit after regular degree-seeking admission has been granted.

An additional international evaluation fee of $50.00 (U.S. currency) is required if the application is considered for admission based on foreign credentials.

Transcript and Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirement

Applicants who are Texas State University degree recipients or are currently enrolled at Texas State, you need to request transcripts from any colleges NOT listed on your Texas State transcript. The Graduate College will provide the Texas State transcripts.

Applicants must submit one official transcript from each college or university from which credit was received. These transcripts must be mailed directly from the university or college attended or submitted in a sealed university envelope with the university registrar's signature on the back of the envelope. Driver's Education applicants are required to submit only one official transcript from where the highest degree was completed.

All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited university. Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 2.75 on all college/university work or a 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of transcript work or an advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution. If one of these conditions for admission is met, the Office of Educator Preparation upon receipt of the required fee will prepare a Certification Plan.

English Proficiency Requirement (TOEFL)

English proficiency exam scores through the are required to apply if English is not the applicant’s native language or if the applicant is not eligible for an automatic TOEFL . English proficiency exam scores are valid for two years after the exam date. Fluency in English is expected of all accepted students, specifically in the areas of listening, reading, speaking, and writing. In order to be eligible for regular admission into this program, applicants must submit scores of at least:

  • TOEFL iBT only – 78 overall with minimum individual module scores of 19/listening; 19/reading, 26/speaking; 19/writing

Note: Teacher Certification programs do not allow English-based conditional admission ("Bridge") based on TOEFL/IELTS scores. Applicants must submit the required scores for regular admission listed above.

Office of Education Preparation

Eligibility regarding acceptance will be made by the Office of Educator Preparation. If you hold a teacher certificate and are seeking additional teacher certification, you will also be required to submit a copy of this certificate directly to the Office of Educator Preparation. This Office of Education Preparation information above does not apply for the following programs: Career & Technology Education (CATE), Driver’s Education (6-12), Elementary Education – Teachers Recruitment Program (TRP), Master Math Teacher, Middle School Mathematics, Special Education, or Secondary Education – Teachers Recruitment Program (TRP). Please contact the appropriate advisor regarding eligibility.

Mathematics / Master Math Teacher

Applicants will electronically submit the documents listed above to The Graduate College at https://tim.txstate.edu/gadocumentupload/. Please only submit what is required by the program. Any additional documents mailed or emailed to our office will not be attached to applications. Letters of recommendation may be sent by the recommender via e-mail to gradrqmt@txstate.edu in a single PDF document. Recommenders will need to include the applicant name and date of birth, and preferably a student ID number.
